SHMBO decided that we really needed a round window in the top of the gable end wall. The main problem as I could see it was that it would be just below the roof ridge, so would be making a huge weakness in a piece of wall that was going to take a huge weight. I grew up near a concrete pipe making plant, so the idea of using a concrete pipe to form the opening leapt into my mind. I phoned up the pipe suppliers, and got a strength rating for the pipe. It was the same strength as the concrete in the foundations we just laid. I spoke to the architect, who advised running a normal concrete lintel over the window to take the roof load. We would have both.
First job, know a huge hole in a perfectly good bit of wall - a bit upsetting that bit was. Oshian who was helping out with the stonework helped out with this too.
Cut the pipe down to size
